Orlando Bloom is feeling proud of himself – and rightly so – after getting back to the gym and pursuing a new workout regime.
The American star, 45, has never been one to shy away from getting his bod out – who could forget those pics from his holiday with wife-to-be Katy Perry?
But, the Lord of the Rings star has been hard at work toning his physique, after he was left with a broken back at the age of 19.
The actor says he was told by doctors that he would ‘never walk again,’ but he’s certainly proven that theory wrong.
Taking to Instagram to celebrate the progress he’s made, Orlando posted a series of sweaty videos of himself working out, lifting weights and doing press-ups.
It would be an understatement to say he looked buff, with his toned abs and impressive arm muscles on full display as he exercised shirtless, wearing a headband to push his curly locks away from his face.
His six million followers were absolutely eating up the gym content, which surely brightened up the dreary Monday mornings of many.
‘It‘s getting really hot in here.🙈😯🔥’, commented one fan.
‘🔥🔥🔥🔥 this video just made my day. You look amazing ❤️’, wrote another, while several couldn’t help but remark how ‘lucky’ California Girls hitmaker Katy is to be marrying Orlando.
Orlando near-fatal injury which led to a broken back was the result of an attempt to get onto a roof terrace by leaping onto a drainpipe that gave way.
He fell down three stories and shattered his vertebrae, with a doctor at the time telling him that he ‘he wasn’t sure how severe the spinal cord damage was.’
The actor spent a few weeks in hospital before walking out on his own with titanium pins in his spine.
Shockingly, he went back to riding after the accident, which ended up being to his own detriment after returning to the hospital to have his pins remove, when docs found them all fractured and coming out in shards, with one pin driven too deep to remove.
Speaking on the incident years later, he said: ‘Until then, I didn’t have a healthy appreciation for life and death — that we’re not invincible.
‘I went to some dark places in my mind. I realised, I’m either going to walk again or I’m not.’
Luckily, Orlando survived to tell the tale and he is now a father to Daisy Dove Bloom, who turns two this August.
Most recently, Katy was forced to address speculation that she married Orlando in secret, three years after he popped the question.
Orlando got down on one knee in 2019, with the couple announcing their engagement soon after but having to delay their special day due to the pandemic.
Speaking on the Kyle and Jackie O Show, via Daily Mail, the Firework singer, 37, was questioned on whether they had quietly hosted secret nuptials in that time.
She insisted: ‘We’re still trying to work out destination [and] location.
‘Every couple of months there’s a new variant, new variant, new variant.’
